2009.
With Season 3 of Mad Men, one of the booziest shows on television just around the corner, AMC has launched a new site where you can “Mad Men” yourself and fashion an avatar in the style and likeness of the show. I have spent roughly the past 17 hours fiddling and tinkering with it (possibly lulled into a trance by the hypnotic background music on the site) making delightful vignettes featuring yours truly. With the options available, I was actually able to make it look a good bit like me, though my raw animal sexuality doesn’t really translate well to cartoon form. You can even make them your desktop wallpaper, if you’re so inclined*. Check ‘em out, standard square versions are on the left, widescreens on the right:
You know me, just hanging out in front of a wood-grainish background. CLASSIC DRINKPLANNER.
“The name is Planner…Drink Planner“
I call this one “Who let this idiot in here?”
Just another day at the office, where my job is to hit on Joan (Christina Hendricks) all day
This one is titled “The police are on their way”
So there you have it, head over to the AMC site and make your own, and share them in the comments.

*I realize that it is a giant presumptive leap that anyone would ever want such things, but I had to justify the 34 hours I spent making these somehow.

Hey gang, just a few things that are going down in the ATL right now WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. Most are ITP, but they’re pretty badass so KEEP READING my pretties.
1. $25 ALL YOU CAN EAT AND DRINK AT LOCA LUNA – No jive, hep-turkey…people. Or something. For a cool crisp $25 bill every Tuesday, you can eat and drink ALL of the tapas (mexican thumb-tacks?), beer, wine, sangria and well liquors you can swallow. WHAT!?! Is this real life!?! That’s a great deal to basically be able to stuff your body with every beautiful thing this world has to offer for the price of a $25 gift card at FartShax. Or Chili’s. Or Maternity Ward. Or CustomButtToyz4U.com. You know, $25 dollars yo!*
2. Local Wine Tasting at Woodfire Grill – The ol’ WG is hosting tastings from some of the best vinyards/winerys/whino-factories in GA for a low-low price of only $15. For the price of a $15 Muffin Hutt Varsity gift card, you can sample wines from:
Persimmon Creek
Tiger Mountain
WOLF Mountain
and Frogtown Cellars (wine from Frogs? GROSS!)
Hoo-whee buddy, those are some of the best whinyards in GA, right? Well they are from what I hear, and I can hear nearly everything, except train whistles. Doctor says that’ll be the end of me one day, yessiree. Toot-tooooooooot! (ducks and craps-self)
3. Gordon Biersch Opening in Buckhead – Do you even care at this point? $25 all-you-can-drink-WHATEVER and $15 get-your-buzz-on-local-vino pretty much trumps some brewery opening, but whatever. IT’S BEER, IT’S HERE, GET DRINKING IT.
Big-ups to Atlanta On the Cheap and Atlanta Dish for scooping these deals up and serving them to me ice cold on a silver platter. MADE OF PURE SAVINGS AND BUTTERSCOTCH.
*Can someone loan me $25? Plus parking and tip? I could dance for it!
2009.
Guys, I just got some brand-spankin’ new footage from the next season of Three Sheets which starts airing in just a few short weeks on Fine Living Network. Don’t act like you don’t know what I’m talking about, I just told you about it the other day. Also BONUS, I can pretty much guarantee that if you’re reading and watching these videos, you’re among the first, as the number of views of each of these videos is less than 10 people. You’re on the bleeding edge, folks.
First, a quick minute behind the scenes with Zane:
And now a longer preview of some of this season’s new adventures:
I can’t wait! Get ready, it all starts July 20th!
2009.
You guys, we did it! By “we” I mean the collective drinkers of the internets, and by “it” I mean helped get Zane Lamprey’s fantastic drink-travel show “Three Sheets” get picked up by Fine Living Network. New episodes will begin airing July 20th at 10pm. When we heard that Mojo was shutting it’s doors and “Three Sheets” was going to be homeless, booze bloggers and desperate drinkers from all across the interwebs howled and cried, begging for someone, ANYone to pick up our beloved show. It happened! It worked! They’ll even be showing old episodes on the nights that the new ones aren’t running. This is really incredible news and we couldn’t be happier to find out one of our favorite shows will soldier on in this crapass economy.
There are so many negative images of booze out there, it’s great to have a show like this out there showing how drinking is a universal worldwide social experience meant to be enjoyed and celebrated by all. So congrats to Zane and crew, and we’re looking forward to catching them every week on FLN.
2009.
After booze, one of my favorite things is music. This will be an occasional feature where I speak briefly about some music (full albums or songs) I’ve been enjoying while I throw a few back.

Hey-oooo, new feature time! Music and drinking go together like something and something. They’re made for each other! I have a pretty wide (yet refined with just a touch of “snooty”) taste in music, so hopefully there will be something for everyone to enjoy. I’m linking stuff to Amazon.com because they’re consistently the cheapest and I hate iTunes and their stupid DRM. SO….here’s what I’ve been pouring into my earhole lately.
1. The Hold Steady – A Positive Rage: The world’s best drinking band has finally released a live album of one of their epic live shows. I know I’ve already talked about them here before, but their live shows are a thing of LEGEND, and this CD/DVD
combo captures all the wildness and ferocity they’re known for. If you’re a drinker and you don’t know them, you’ve been missing out my friend. I don’t have anything else to say but I’m going to write an extra sentence here because wordpress is disobeying me worse than a 14-year old girl right now and won’t insert a break here LIKE I TOLD YOU TO CLEAN YOUR ROOM, so this is the alternative to me slapping that child/putting my fist through my monitor.
2. Wale – Chillin’ (feat Lady GaGa): Probably the first big jam of the summer, after strawberry of course (so sorry for that joke, I’m heading straight to jail for that one). Wale (pronounced wah-lay) is an up-and-coming MC from DC and has incredible flows like I haven’t heard in a long LONG time. For real, cop EVERYTHING YOU CAN by this guy. He’s got a ton of free mixtapes out for download and has a major label album dropping late summer/early fall. If you’re a hip-hop fan, GO and download 100 Miles and Running or his Seinfeld (!) themed mixtape The Mixtape About Nothing or the brand-new Back to the Feature featuring everyone from Bun B to Memphis Bleek (ha!) to Talib Kweli to Warren G to Peter, Bjorn and John. Dude is going to be HUGE. Here’s the video for Chillin’:
3. Chromeo – Needy Girl: This isn’t new, in fact it’s from their first album She’s in Control, it’s all synth and talk box and I’m so in deep deep love with this I can’t control myself. It’s got a badass throwback 80′s groove that SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO THIS SONG AND I AM NO LONGER IN CONTROL OF MY ACTIONS. CALL A HOSPITAL AND MY PARENTS AND PLEASE HELP I CAN’T STOP LET MY FAMILY KNOW…ahem…so it’s ahhhh pretty great in a low-key kind of way. It’s even got a classic phone call break-in which SELF CONTROL HOLD IT TOGETHER BEAT IRRESISTABLAREKJRARRRJJHHHuuuhhhh. Enjoy!
4. Phoenix – Lisztomania: Another contender for Summer Hip-Swinger ’09, the first two tracks on their latest album are the best, Lisztomania in particular. I’m not sure that anyone knows what it means, but it just makes you feel good and makes you dance like only white people can dance (much like Consolation Prizes off of their last album). Evidence? This Lisztomania/The Breakfast Club mash-up (and a few other 80′s movies) which is truly brilliant.
I also had a brief write-up of the new Method Man & Redman Blackout! 2 (Short Summary: it’s great!) album but wordpress decided that it wanted to delete it like the moody little bitch it is. No TV for a week!
